Pailin Has Become a Golden Land for Agriculture and Tourism

PAILIN: The last area to be liberated in Cambodia, Pailin province, also known as the land of gems, has transformed from a former battlefield into a province full of development in agriculture, trade and tourism.

Speaking at a press conference at the Office of the Council of Ministers on Thursday afternoon, 23 February 2023, the Provincial Governor of Pailin, Ban Sreymom, highlighted the potential for further agriculture, trade and tourism development in the province, attracting many investors and increasing local revenue.

She showcased packets of dry longan and dry mango, red wine and analgesic balm produced in the province, and also shared that Pailin can import more agricultural goods from other provinces to supply the factory production chain as well.

She said that in the last five years, Pailin province has exported more than two million tons of agricultural products, including to Thailand, Vietnam and China. She stated that in the province, there are 54 locations where agricultural products can be purchased, and there will also be one such location at the border checkpoint.

In addition to these results pertaining to agriculture and trade, Governor Ban Sreymom also spoke of the tourism sector in Pailin province, sharing that from 2018 to 2022, the province received nearly one million tourists, which is a significant increase from the past.

Pailin province has a total of eight tourist sites, including one historical site, four natural resorts, one site for agro-tourism and one site for ecotourism.

The province has a 44-kilometer long border with Thailand, a land area of 1,194 square kilometers, one city, one district and a total population of 78,975 people.
